Compassionate Care
Compassionate care is caring for the individual who has been impacted by the disaster. TXCDR Response Teams know they are not just working on a house but are serving a family whose whole life has been turned upside down. They take the time to listen to those affected by the disaster. We offer emotional and spiritual support, empathy, encouragement, and hope.
Training Sessions
Support and Training for all Response Teams
All TXCDR Response Teams receive training in compassionate care. We recognize that what others may see as a damaged house is a person’s home and that many of the damaged belongings have emotional value. We take the time to move at a pace that is comfortable for our clients. We strive to address the needs of those we are serving first.
Dedicated Compassionate Care Response Team
Some Congregations may opt to form a dedicated Compassionate Care Response Team. These individuals work side by side with other Response Teams as they make the initial contact with the client. They provide an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, emotional and spiritual care on a deeper level, and information on the recovery process for all types of disasters. Compassionate Care Response Teams will be among the last to demobilize.
Volunteer Disaster Case Management
If the government does not declare an incident to be a national or state disaster, Disaster Case Managers may not receive funding to help those impacted who need assistance managing their recovery. TXCDR Volunteer Disaster Case Managers will help fill this gap by providing guidance to the clients, advocating for resources, and helping them develop and execute a recovery plan.
We are committed to offering elements of Volunteer Disaster Case Management as needs are identified including support of rural counties who may need help with intake and damage assessment.
